2018 SUNBURN Camp


Additional Information and FAQ
 
Who: All paddlers, from 13 to 23 seeking to develop their skills.  Each paddler must have current ACA membership
  
WhatIntensive Paddling Camp involving Canoes and Kayaks, individual and team boats, as well as strength and conditioning, Surfski, SUP, Paddle Board, Running, Weight Room ... and FUN!! 
 
When should Out-of-town paddlers arrive?
  • Out-of-town paddlers should arrive on December 26th and depart on December 31st.  The dorm will be available on both Dec. 26th and 30th.  For out-of-town paddlers requiring airport pick-up/drop-off, please attempt to arrive between noon and 6pm on December 26th, and depart between 9am and 1pm on December 31st.

Do I need to bring my own boat?

  • SDCKT boats and paddles will be available to all campers.  Boat assignment will be done based on paddler skills.
  • Please note that we have limited number and choice of Canoe
  • If you want to use your own boat, we have ample trailer parking available
  • You may bring your own paddle.   

What is included in the overnight camp?

•       Overnight camp includes lodging in dormitories and all meals and snacks

What will be a typical day like for overnight campers?  
    • 7:00/7:30: wake up
    • 7:45: breakfast
    • 8:15: day campers arrive 
    • 8:30 to 12:00: morning practice
    • 12:00 to 13:30: lunch
    • 13:30 to 17:00: afternoon practice
    • 17:15: day campers picked-up    
    • 18:00: diner/Evening Activities
    • 22:00: lights out

Various break will be scheduled during the day for recovery.

Overnight campers will have access to a common room for games and socializing, outside of the practice time. 

Lunch and snacks will be provided to all paddlers, either day or overnight campers.


When is the best time to register?

•       Register early to secure your spot

When do I need to pay?

  • You will need to pay before the beginning of the camp, but our preference would be for you to pay by end of November.

 

What are the dorms like? What do I need to bring?

  •       The dorms are cabin type accommodations with bunk beds, separated by gender.  We recommend you bring a warm sleeping bag and pillow.  Gender appropriate chaperones will be staying in the dorms with the campers.

 •       Even if San Diego weather is mild in the winter, we recommend you bring some warm clothing, as well as wet-weather clothing.  We will send a detailed packing list to all participants in advance.

 

What if a paddler has allergies or dietary restrictions?

  • Please communicate with us in advance regarding any allergies or dietary restrictions, and we will do our best to accommodate

  • Sleeping bag (recommended) or bed sheets and blanket
  • (Optional: pillow)
  • Towel(s)
  • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrush….)
  • Flashlight
  • (Optional: your favorite DVD’s.  DVD should be suitable for all audience)
  • (Optional: your favorite board game)
  • Paddling outfits for 4 days
  • Running/dry land outfits for 4 days
  • Change of clothes for 5 days
  • Rain jacket/warm clothes
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen (in spite of the camp name, we do not want you to get sunburned)
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • (Optional: GPS/activity watch)
  • (Optional: your own paddle, but we have plenty if you want to borrow from us)
  • Knee block
  • (Optional: Duct Tape, Electrical Tape, Band-Aids)
  • (Optional: Thumb drive)
  • (Optional: Spending money)
